The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized Argos’ Roberta, Ala., and Harleyville, S.C., plants with the Energy Star certification for the fifth and third consecutive year, respectively.
This recognition signifies that these plants performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.
“We are delighted to be granted again with these certifications that reaffirms our commitment to sustainability and to give value to our society,” María Isabel Echeverri, Argos legal and sustainability vice-president. “The responsible use of energy is an essential pillar of our company, and we work every day in the development and implementation of technologies that enable efficient use and strategic management of this resource.”
The Harleyville Plant is also distinguished for having the largest cement mill in the United States, which operates with approximately half of the power consumption required by a traditional mill. Also, the plant co-processes waste.
Moreover, Argos’ Roberta Plant has an installed capacity up to 1.5 million tpy and has been historically recognized for its high level of alternative fuels and energy optimization processes implementation.
